A Scary First for Us

I knew it would happen one day, but today was the day that Houston had to go and get his first set of stitches. After going to the doctor, we were immediately sent to the hospital to a Plastic/Surgery Group and they took good care of him this afternoon.

He was patiently waiting in the Dr office in this picture. We were told it was too deep underneath and that it could not be glued and bonded together.
This is his poor little face tonight. A little swelled up, but so far, the pain is not that bad.

It all started after lunch, when a teacher came to me with tears in her eyes and told me, "Mandy, your baby" "He is hurt". I thought , what? She said he was bleeding and was with the nurse. All she knew was there was blood and it was his eye. I immediately freaked and called Tim. He freaked and said, I am coming to get him! I told him no, to wait until I had more details and I would call him back. One of my parent volunteers came to my room and I told him to go check on him. (I was not suppose to know that he was hurt, due to the fact that they thought I would flip out). He came back and told me to go to the office and be with him. Our IF came to
my room to inform me of what all was happening and that he needed stitches and she would split my class. ( Houston didn't remember what happened, but we concluded that he must have tripped and fallen in the cafeteria and hit his eye on the metal brace under the lunch table) I called the doc and they said they could not do stitches but could maybe glue it. They couldn't get me in with his doc until 3:00 and this happened at 11:30. I took the next available appointment and headed to meet Tim at the house. We jumped in the car with him and went to the Dr. They looked at it and said after cleaning it, it was too deep to glue, so they set us up with a plastic surgeon. We then headed to the hospital to meet with the surgeon. As soon as we got there I posted on fbook for prayers b/c Hou started to get nervous and scared about what might happen. One of my very good friends had seen my post on fbook and asked what Dr we were seeing. She immediately began texting me and long story short, she works at the hospital we were sent to. I was filling out paperwork and was so surprised when she came into the waiting room to check on us. I felt so much better about putting my child's face in someone else's hands. She also gave Hou a cotton ball with numbing cream on it to prep him. Anyway, Houston was called back and they covered his body with towels except his eye and stitched him right up. Dr. Burris was bragging on how good of a patient Houston was compared to others he has worked on. They stuck the needle in and went to work without any complaints or problems. I was so proud of him for being so brave his first time. I, on the other hand was a nervous wreck watching it all take place and Tim couldn't even watch. (he passes out when he sees blood) . He got 4 or 5 stitches and they are dissolveable. How come they didn't have dissolveable stitches when we were kids? Life would have been so easier! haha

This was Houston on the car ride home.

Before his "surgery"

Dr. Burris doing a wonderful job stitching Hou Boo back up

The child never shed a tear. I could not believe it. He was so brave!

This was tonight before bed.

And this last one he was so exhausted, he fell asleep in the car on the way home.

We are so blessed that it didn't do any permanent damage to his eye. It could have been so much worse. Thank you Jesus for watching over Hou Boo!

Please pray for my sister as she has had a few difficult days this week.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:6-7

All about Coons

This has been Houston's favorite movie for about 6 months now. He absolutely loves it and wanted a coon hat for Christmas and has been wanting a coon dog to hunt with. He seriously watches this movie just about 3 times a month. He is now on You-tube watching people coon hunt with dogs.

Yep, his dream came true and he caught one in his coon trap!
He was so surprised that we really had one

We named him Rocky, but later released him.

He may be cute, but was very upset to be locked up in this cage. We estimated him to be about 6 months old. We took him down to a lake/nature reserve and released him after a few hours.

We had a pet raccoon before Houston was born, but gave him to some friends and he was later stolen. Have any of you ever had a pet Raccoon?

Five on Friday

Just a few things I have been up to lately....................................................

1. I have been doing this Bible Study by Kay Arthur each week with some really great women. I think it was just what I needed and has already touched my heart in so many ways. I had such a great time with the girls this week!

2. I have been crafting again. I have so many Pinterestly inspired projects I want to do, but not enough time to do them. If I only took pictures of everything I have made in the past 6 months.

*This was an old Coca Cola tub basin. With some help from my cricut, a can of paint and of course some adorable ribbon I purchased at Hobby Lobby over the weekend, it turned into this......

3. Of course my amazing hubby and our multiple Date Nights we have had this week
Thank you Holly and LJ!

4. Horseback riding with friends, neighbors and family

5. Of course Line Dancing with friends. I CAN NOT WAIT for an upcoming event we have planned with friends! It is going to be so much fun.

Have a great weekend! Our kids have a 4 day weekend! Yahoo! Can't wait to relax after trying to recover from that funk that was going around. Just glad I am finally getting over it!

My Valentine's Treats

This Valentine's Day was absolutely wonderful. I got this special card from a special little boy when I woke up Tuesday morning!

Here are some pics of my goodies

We went to dinner last weekend to celebrate and my sister kept Houston overnight for us.

Our dinner was delayed and we ended up getting our entire meal for free.
I have been so sick the past 9 days and have not been able to even taste my food, so my coworker volunteered to keep Houston on Valentine's Night and give us another "night out" to enjoy. We went to dinner again and celebrated a wonderful night together. Houston even had fun on his date night.

Tim surprised me and got me some cute pj pants, lingerie, candy and a sweet card and then, I got a lot of little things from my students and kids at school. I also got 2 cartons of strawberries too. DELISH!!!!

I hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day!

My Smart Boy!

Houston with his report card

Yep, Houston made Principal List again for 2nd 9 weeks. Check out his report card and semester averages. He was so proud as his mommy and daddy were too! This child LOVES 1st grade and he loves to go to school every day. His teacher was out a few days last week and he had a sub in his room. He missed his teacher so much. It makes a big difference when kids enjoy their teachers.

This will be a short post as we are getting ready to head to a SuperBowl party with friends for tonight. Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

Game Night!

Here are a few pictures from one of our wild "Game Nights"

The kids were trying to stay awake

Last night, rather than game night, we went line dancing with friends. It was sooo much fun as always! I can't wait until this amazing band is back next month. They are country, rock and roll and blues! I am beginning to think Copperhead Road is my new fave!
