Dance contest Fun

This month, the students have been learning about RESPECT from our guidance counselor each morning. We talk about it, ask questions, watch video clips and have group discussions. This morning our principal informed the students that each grade level that had the most respect during the month of October would get a really cool prize. She also told the kids, the teachers were gonna do a contest about respect to get a prize today. She asked for teacher volunteers and of course, I volunteered, wanting a "cool" prize. There were 2 groups of 4 teachers that volunteered to come on stage. However, we had no idea what we would be doing. Well......... the objective was to sing the song R-E-S-P-E-C-T by Aretha Franklin with NO MUSIC and have backup dancers. Whoever got the loudest claps or standing ovation would be declared the winner. In my group, it was Mrs. Long, Mrs. Alston, and I that danced with our "moves" as Ms.Gafford sang solo. It was absolutely hilarious and was the kids were tickled to death watching us act silly as we sang and danced. What a great way to start our morning. All through the day, I had people coming up to me commenting on my dancing moves. haha, I guess I was pretty bad. Anyway, we won and the prize was a free lunch of our choice paid for by the principal. So, tomorrow, we get honey glazed hot wings for lunch!!!!
It's gonna be a great day too, because it is Friday and Girl's Night Out!!! WHOOO HOOOOO

Reacap of week

This little boy is getting that HAIR cut this weekend

Thanks for all the congrats on my last post!!! It makes me appreciate my hard efforts even more.

I have not blogged all week, due to being sick. I have not missed a single day of work teaching in over 3 years straight and only 1 before that, so having to be out of school Mon and Tues was hard after not missing but one day in my 5 years of teaching.

Over the weekend, we had celebrated at a couples shower with friends, we went out to eat with friends and went to the Flea Market at the agricenter. Sunday, I woke up to go teach Sunday School and felt ugh. I thought I was just tired due to soccer, school basketball game, invitation stuffing party, and all the other parties, outings and things going on.

I went to church and when it came time to teach the lesson, I had to ask my dear, sweet assistant to ready the Bible Story. My throat hurt and my body ached. Houston had spent the night with my parents so I took advantage and went straight home to nap. I slept all day! Tim woke me up and I started crying, I hurt so bad. He had just came home with Hou, so we went back to mom's and dropped Hou off and headed to Minor Med. Luckily, there was no one in front of us, so we only waited about 20 minutes. When I went back, I had a fever, body aches and it turned out, I tested positive for strep.

I stayed in bed all day Monday and all day Tuesday. Tim's mom brought me a BLT (my request) Tuesday after she took Hou to school. It was so delicious to eat after not eating for 3 days. That night, I was feeling better and mom brought over chicken and dumplins and mashed potatoes. Once again, they were delish! Wednesday, I went to school and was a little weak, but made it, and by Thursday, I was so much better. Although I got an antibiotic shot and Hou went to school and told everyone I got SHOT IN THE BUTT. Ms. Shields actually believed him and was questioning me about how I got shot. Crazy Kids!!!

Anyway, Thursday we had soccer and Houston did amazing and today we had an Academic Pep Rally to recognize and honor the students. Houston received Principal Club with all mastery and Perfect Attendance. He got 2 ribbons and was so proud.

Tonight, he is having his first friend sleepover with his buddy form school, Noah. Houston has spent the night with my mom and had his cousin Abbi and even Makayla spend the night this summer, but this is like Best bud, party, sleepover. They have had a ball too. I had a friend come over to hang with me b/c Tim had to work the Briarcrest homecoming. Theboys have already passed out for the night. Thank God because tomorrow is his 1st soccer game of the season. Here are some pics of a recap of the past few days! Enjoy the weekend.

I Finally Reached the FIFTY mark!!!!!!!!!

Well, I did it......... I finally got to the 50 pound mark. I have been trying to lose weight since November 24, 2009. I started working out at least 5 days a week, drinking water, cutting back on red meat and choosing chicken instead, cutting out breads and pastas and going with wheat and I quit eating after 5 pm. It has been almost 10 months and I weigh EVERY Friday. I weighed this morning and have lost 52 pounds!!!!!! I was ecstatic! I have been at a plateau of about 47 pounds for about a month now and it has been so frustrating being so close to one of my goals. I have taken it about 5 to 10 pound goals at a time and have gone from a size 18 to a size 12. I feel soooo much better, it feels so good getting the compliments and the attention from the hubby~heehee. I even had my blood pressure checked last week and had an outstanding reading compared to the norm. Anyway, the blog is a tribute, I guess , to say so long 52 pounds. OMG, that is like loosing the weight of Houston. That is exactly what he weighs. Anyway, don't get too grossed out with the FAT pics, but I wanted to compare the "old" me and the "new" me!
This is the NEW me
A Side View

Teddy Bear Tuesday

This week we are studying letter Tt in kindergarten. The children brought their teddy bears to school today since it was Tuesday. While they were at lunch, the teddies decided to become terrible and play in our classroom instead of stay in their seats. Look what they got into.........

Hanging upside down on a basket
Playing on the computer

Sleeping in the sink

Playing station games

Sitting on top of the TEACHER's rocker

Taking a nap in the folder tray

and hanging in the snack cabinet, sharpening a pencil and in the tent.
The kids thought this was HILARIOUS and we wrote a sentence about our terrible teddies and illustrated it.

A rewarding day!

Today and yesterday my kindergarteners have been so good. They have had all E's in conduct for 2 days in a row! I have one child that I have really fallen in love with though. She is a sweetheart and her family is so supportive and helpful. Anyway, I was so proud of this baby today. She has no pre-school experience and has struggled a little this first month of school. Today, she told me that she wanted to try to read her sight words to me. She came up to my table and read 3 WEEKS worth of sight words! I was ecstatic that she read 15 sight words and she knew less than 4 words last week. WOW!!! I called her mom to spread the good news and made her a Star Student award. It is days like this that my job is soooooo rewarding. I absolutely love it and can't wait to to watch these kindergartners grow this year.

This is how he rolls....

Houston learned how to ride his bike in the spring, but as much as we ride at night on our backroads, I made him keep his training wheels on for safety due to all teh traffic. We took his worn out training wheels off this weekend and he was off!

Not for long, he is still not sure about stopping.
WATCH OUT BUSH!!!!

Off again
A little dramatic I am thinking
So proud
This is all he wanted to do this weekend

Clowning around

He thought he was being sneaky

He crashed and hit his head, but didn't shed a tear

My little boy is growing up so fast :(

Kindergarten Letter Days~ HELP!

I need all you craetive teachers and your help! When I am teaching a letter of the alphabet, I try to include a fun day to help the children remember the sound of the letter. For example, when studying letter Pp, we do a pajama day. I have letters Rr and Tt coming up next week. I plan to do teddy bear day, where they bring their teddy to school and wear teddy ears on their head, but does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions of fun days when teaching letters in Kindergarten or any grade level. Any ideas on any letters would be appreciated! Thanks

Thursday's Thoughts

My Thursday's Thoughts for today are:

1. I think I may have worn this sweet baby out in Kindergarten today. He played out at dismissal and is still on the couch sound asleep!

2. I actually am falling in love with my Kindergarten class this year. they are so sweet and have so many different personalities. I lost another child this week, due to being out of district, and I still have 20 kids in my class. They are beginning to catch on and learn and it is so awesome to see their little minds work.
3. I am thinking I wish my ceiling in the living room was fixed. After our air condition pan leak 2 weeks ago, it ruined our ceiling, my favorite border and now everything has to be cut out and repainted. Tim's dad is incredible and is almost finished, but it has been a long, drawn out mess in my den this week!
4. I am thinking I have a pile of laundry I need to get up and fold, but I I may just wait until later tonight.
5. I am so happy Friday and Monday, the kids are out of school. That calls for an extra long weekend planned full of fun filled activities. Helloooooo DELTA FAIR!!!
6. I think I will dread taking our pool down next week, but the fall weather has officially arrived.
7. I am thinking, when is Helen going to call me for the 1000th time today to remind me about our bike ride at 6 pm. She is such great motivation and has already left 2 messages on the home phone, called my cell and sent 3 emails. GEEEZ
8. Lastly, I guess I should think about waking Hou Boo up. It has been 2 1/2 hours since he has been asleep and he would die if he knew mawmaw and pawpaw were here.
