t-shirt suggestions

I need some graduation ideas for our Kindergarten Graduation t-shirt this year. I went to the shirt place today to get a quote and she asked me if I had any idea of what we wanted. I have no idea. Our mascot is a Hornet and "Buzzing out of Kindergarten" came to my mind immediately, but I have no idea what clip art to put on the front. I kinda like the idea of little boys and girls holding hands, but I don't have a theme or saying. Do any of you ladies have any suggestions for me?

Balloons for Jesus!

Saturday we went to John Deere days and Houston got some balloons to take home. He has always had a thing for balloons, so he got a few, played with them and released them. After he released them, he got upset and said, "Oh no! I wonder if they will make it to see Jesus?" Then he proceeded to say, "I wish I wrote on that balloon, I love you Jesus", "Mommy, can we go to Kroger and get a balloon right now?" I told him, we would get a balloon one afternoon this week. We ran to Briarcrest Sunday afternoon to get something from Tim's dad and pawpaw had a bunch of balloons waiting for Hou Boo. He was so excited and this is what he did......... We luv you Jezus Getting ready to let them go

Bye bye

He said, "I sure hope they make it to Jesus mommy!"

Love my Hou Boo!

I am so proud of him and his relationship with the Lord! He makes me so proud!

celebrate JOHN DEERE DAY! Yep, our local John Deere dealer hosts a family fun event every year called, John Deere Day. We have been going for 4 years now and it is so much fun. They have a live band, karaoke, free burgers, hot dogs, BBQ, chips, homemade ice cream, cookies, moon bounces, games, train rides, pony rides and fun fun fun. This year since it was cold and rainy weather, they decided to have it inside the shop area. It was fantastic! Heaters were going and there was a great turnout. We spent almost the entire day there visiting with friends and of course farmers. Plus, it was a great way to end our spring break. I know, it went fast and we had fun, but now it's back to work for a few more weeks and then it's SUMMER TIME!!!!

10 Things I Have Learned from Teaching

I am linking up with Jennifer over at Rowdy in First Grade to share 10 Things I Have Learned from Teaching.

1. We are underpaid, yet our jobs are so rewarding that it equals itself out in my opinion. I absolutely LOVE to see my students begin to read. When the light bulb turns on, it makes me feel so happy to be a teacher and it is so rewarding knowing I had a part in that.

2. I don't care what people say, I have learned a teachers work is never done. There is always something to be filed, graded, copied or organized.

3. The best gifts ever given to me are student crafted or handmade. I love all the pictures, cards and letters with invented spellings from my students over the years.

4. To never let my students use the electric pencil sharpener. They think it fun and it gives them a reason to get out of their seat and make some noise. As a matter of fact, to not let them sharpen pencils at all. I do it after school or have a special helper.

5. To have great communication skills and form or establish a good parent/teacher relationship in the beginning. That way, if there is a problem with their child, it will be easier to discuss problems that may arise with their child.

6. To be positive even with the "bad" kids. They need to someone to praise them when they do something good. In my experience, usually if a bad kid misbehaves, he is wanting attention or something is going on at home. If I praise him and reward him for doing something well, he will try harder to get that verbal praise in front of his peers.

7. To HUG my students each day. Usually right before I teach reading, many of my students will come up to me randomly and say "I love you" and give me a hug. I hug them in return and try to give them the attention they might not get at home.

8. To organize community supplies at the beginning of the year. If not, pencils will be gone by Christmas and tablets wasted. I usually have leftover pencils and paper at the end of each year organizing it this way.

9.To be and stay organized! I keep a 3 inch thick binder with lesson plans, newsletters, notes, emails and other VIP things. That way, i can flip to it when needed and don't have to search everywhere for VIP documents.

10. That Sharpies and Mr. Sketch markers were the best thing ever invented fro teachers. I can gladly say, I use them on a daily basis.

I needed a little something to put all my Bath and Body Works lotions and sprays in for my bathroom. I went to Goodwill and found this shabby old basket for $.99. (Sorry no before pics of basket)

Next I spray painted it black, bought some ribbon and made a bow and this is what it now looks like!

St Patrick's Day Fun

On St Patrick's Day, my class made these Leprechaun masks. They made them by themselves, so they weren't perfect, but they had fun and looked very festive. Here is Houston in his.

When they came to school that morning, we found that the Leprechauns had came and sprinkled green dust all over our tables in our room.

Then, when we came back from lunch, we found Gold rocks scattered all over our classroom.(Sorry, no pics). We also read a book about how to catch a leprechaun and had a blast writing sentences about how we would catch our funny Leprechaun.

I saw some cute ideas and heard about some cute things other teachers did to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. In the past, we have not had to come to school on St Patty's Day in a long time due to being out on Spring Break. It was so much fun to watch the kids and enjoy this time of year with my students. What do you do to celebrate with your students?

What a way to begin our Spring Break

I know, I have been a little M.I.A the past few days. It has been hectic around here.

First Houston gets hurt by the horse, we had a big celebration for a special little boy at school on Thursday (news and all), half day of school Friday, Spring Break BEGINS, then Houston gets a really high fever and is up all night with croup cough.

We had to make a trip to the weekend clinic after being up ALL night long worried about his breathing. By the time we got to the Dr, his fever was down to 101.5. The dr prescribed him some steroids to help the cough, we had a problem at the pharmacy and insurance trying to get the meds. The doc office had closed already, the pharmacy was not being helpful and I had a sick little boy in the back seat sleeping with a spiked fever. We finally got things straightened out after a few hours. The doc seems to believe the fever probably hit 104 if he was that hot after having a dose of motrin when we went in for his appt, plus his whole body and clothes were soaking wet that night. It was so scary, and I am so glad it is back down now. He has just been resting alot today. We are watching Alice in Wonderland right now. I called in this morning to get a sub for my Sunday School class because I did not want to get him around other kids since he has had a fever the past 3 days.

Here is a funny I wanted to document that he said one day on the way to school this week;

John 3:16 has always been his favorite memory verse. He was reciting it in the car after our morning prayers for Lucy and he says," For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that who so ever believeth in him..............one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all". I busted out laughing. I said, boy, you have gotten your memory verse and pledge mixed up, haven't ya?" He then realized what he did and we laughed the whole way to school.

Update

Thank you so much for the sweet comments on my last post.

I read them to Houston and he just sat there and smiled. He is doing much better today, just a little sore. He definitely had angels watching over him yesterday.

God is so good

Truely Blessed!

I am so thankful for all of my blessings from the Lord. I am especially grateful of Him looking out for Houston today.

We came home from school, played outside and rode bikes. Tim's parents decided to drop by to see Houston. He wanted to ride his pony, so Tim and Houston headed to the barn to get the tack out and Tim's parents and I sat on the front porch. After a few minutes, I heard screaming and I turned around and saw Houston laying on the ground and the horse reared up over top of him. He was screaming, the dog was barking and I, of course FREAKED! I took off after him screaming NOOOO! Tim was in the barn, so he didn't actually see everything that happened. After a few minutes of trying to calm him down and see if we needed to make a trip to the ER. We discovered that Tim did not know Hou was behind him. The horses were all gathered around b/c it was about feeding time and they do not like the dog b/c she tries to nip at their legs and eat their feed each night.
Houston says Chloe knocked him down and stepped on him but, I am hoping he just tripped (at least trying to convince him that he did). I think the horse was after the barking dog and Houston tripped and fell, the dog was with Hou and stayed by his side. The horse reared up twice to stomp the dog but accidentally got Houston. He had dirt all over him and has a small scrape on his stomach and his back legs are scraped. One is bruised pretty bad and swelled.
He said he was fine, and finally quit crying, so I called the emergency nurse and she said to give him motrin and if he can walk and is not complaining, then he will probably just be sore in the am. I gave him a bath and he looks better (cleaner) at least. He can walk, but limps a little.
I layed in bed with him tonight and just held him with his little ice pack and praised God for protecting him. I hate this happened, but it could have been much worse.
As a mom, my first thought was HIS HEAD. OMG, he got kicked in the head or face. Thank you Christ Jesus for watching over my baby.

For You, Oh Lord, will bless the righteous: with favor You will surround him as with a shield. Psalm 5:12


Oh yea, so I guess Houston will be getting the royal treatment tomorrow. His mawmaw and pawpaw are bringing him a special lunch to school as a treat!
