A Little Dr. Seuss Fun

We have had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday this week. There are some pretty amazing teachers out there in bloggy land that are kind enough to share their fun teaching ideas. I incorporated many ideas into my lessons this week and my kids L-O-V-E-D every bit of it! Thanks ladies!
Wednesday, we started off the morning by having Green Eggs and Ham. I read the book to the class and they loved chiming in to "help" me read it. Surprisingly, most of the children actually ate all of their eggs too.
Then we had a SURPRISE VISITOR stop by! I have the cutest picture of my class with him and I can not wait to post it in my newsletter next week!

We heard The True Story of The Three Little Pigs. It was reenacted by the Wolf and the kids were so engaged in listening with it being a "new version". The wolf was pretty crazy looking too and my kids got the "sugar" thrown onto them to top it off. Hilarious!

We made these adorable Thing 1 and Thing 2's after reading The Cat in the Hat and hearing about how bad these 2 were.

Here is a closeup, but it is kinda blurry.

We wrote which Dr. Seuss book we liked the best! Many were fans of The Cat in the Hat and Red Fish Blue Fish One Fish Two Fish. I am so proud of my kindergartners and their handwriting this year.
And of course, I had to post my son's sentence. No, I am not a proud mommy or anything :)
Here is my bulletin board with my entire class writings. Well, there was not enough room, so some are on the walls beside the bulletin board.
Other things we did this week was, my class got to actually go around to the 1st-5th grade classes and read a decodeable story to each class. I was running around and in meetings, but was so happy to hear the teachers bragging on them by the end of the day. The kids enjoyed it and kept telling me, "The big kids clapped for me" "They must like me" They thought they were pretty cool, I think ;)
We are going to watch the movie, The Cat in the Hat tomorrow and will be having cupcakes for snack as well as concessions in the afternoon.
As you can tell.... I have had so much fun celebrating Read Across America Week with my students!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
