Summer is here!

So I officially started my summer break today at 2:00pm. I am so excited to be off for 2 months with pay. I have always wanted to be a teacher and this is one of the pros of my job. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and feel like it is so rewarding. I just wish some of the other teachers would do their job. It sure would make my job alot easier, if I didn't have to do theirs and mine. I'm just saying.....
Anyway, I have some awesome trips and fun things planned for me and Houston as well as family and friend events this summer. I try to keep Houston busy during the summer and it seems like we stay on the road alot, but he gets to experience somethings alot of other children have never experienced. I will keep you posted on our adventures.
The weather has been extremely hot this year so far. It is still spring and we are already having some serious July temps. I love summer time, but the heat can get unbearable at times. I have already put our pool to good use this week.
I am so glad Houston learned how to swim last summer. He actually learned at our condo in Destin, Fl. He has never been afraid of the water and by the time he was 2, he was already jumping off the diving board and moving across the pool. Last year at our condo, I made him jump in the deep end and swim to the middle of the pool and he did it! From then on, he has been on a roll. I have taught swimming lessons for 5 years in the past and I never thought I would be able to teach my own child, but I did. I guess God knew, I needed some patience.
Well, I gotta go for now, busy next few days planned ahead of me.

EIGHT/8

Today is mine and Tim's 8th Wedding Anniversary together. On this day 8 years ago, we were happily married at my grandparents farm in Rossville. We stayed at the Embassy Suites that night and headed to Florida for a week vacation on the beach the next day. I am so blessed to have Tim in my life. He is a fabulous hubby and a great daddy. We have actually been together for 15 years. Yea, yea, I know, he robbed the cradle. I was 15, he was 24 and we started out being friends and riding horses together. Our families were friends and we were friends through a mutual friend. We started to hang out more and like each other more. We have been together, ever since. Anyway, we were going to wait until this weekend and go out to celebrate because Houston has a Tball game tonight, but it looks like it may be rained out due to the storm that just started.

T-ball awards

Last night was Houston's T-ball awards ceremony at Piperton Baptist Church. It was so much fun! He did really well this year considering it was his first time playing. He was shy the first few games, but really came out of his shell and met lots of new friends. He was so excited about getting a trophy and during the ceremony he was awarded the Most Improved player of the team. There were 8 kids on his team ranging from ages 4 to 8 and Houston was one of the younger players. Anyway, his coach's daughter, Jacy and him became great friends and I know he is going to miss all his teammates and friends. Tonight at 6 pm is his last game!

Fishing For the First time!

This weekend, we decided to take Houston fishing for the very first time. He has been asking to go fishing alot lately, so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went. We went to Johnson Park in Collierville and he did great! We caught 8 catfish in all. His favorite part of the trip was throwing the rod and reel into the water and reeling the string back in. At one point, he threw it out and lost his bait, but I didn't tell him his bait fell off. Next thing I know, the hook was hung in my hair. Luckily, I had my hair in a bun. It was so much fun seeing the excitement on his face throughout the night. We are defiantly going to start taking him fishing more often. Especially since we have a stocked pond in our front yard. Kindergarten graduation 2010

Well, I finally made it through kinderagrten graduation! It turned out very cute and ran smooth. I have been planning it for the past 3 months and I am just glad it is OVER. There was only a minor issue with one of the teachers and her class song, but other than that, I was very pleased with everything. I have had a great year, I won't say it wasn't hard, but it was a pretty good year. I had 6 students transferred into my class this school year, because of problems with parents and other classes. But, the students I got turned out to be sweethearts. After the kids graduated Wednesday, they all went home. I have been busy yesterday and today cleaning out my classroom with the help of Houston and my awesome hubby, Tim. They have really been a big help of throwing stuff out and putting stuff away and hauling everything. I am so ready for my sunmmer break. Being a teacher has its up and downs, and summer break is def a perk!

I know everyone has heard there was a flood in the Mid-south over the weekend. I never woke up Friday night to any storms. However, Saturday I woke up to a phone call alerting me that a tornado watch was in effect. Houston and I stayed in the master bedroom for hours, playing, watching Tv, cleaning and hanging with the pups. Tim had to work. They thought they were going to tough it out and have the Fair on the Square, but finally they got smart and cancelled it. He left work to come home to us. On his way home, he found out Rossville was pretty much closed down due to flooding in the town. He finally made it home a little while later. That night we decided to go to my grandparents farm which is about 5 miles down the rd. We headed out in Tim's car and didn't make it far. Their rd was flooded about a mile from their house. We turned around and headed an alternate route. We drove through some pretty deep water and a truck stopped us and told us to head the other direction because the water was moving pretty hard and there was no way our car would make it. We skied back through the water and headed home to get the 4 wheeler. Once again, we went to the 1st spot and drove the 4wheeler through it.

Sunday we woke up and went to church and for the second night in a row, I never woke up. Kinda weird, I felt so calm about the whole situation. I have a friend in Oakland that had a tree come down on the front and back of her new house. So sad, but so glad they were ok.

After church, we went to Fair on the Square. It was not very crowded due to the bad weather. Sunday afternoon, we spent about 2 hours picking up hundreds of fish that had overflowed from our pond. It was so sad. There were hundreds that were already dead. we filled about 15 five gallon buckets and dumped them back into the pond. Scooby, our puppy, was so funny. Every time we would throw fish into the pond, he would jump in to and retrieve them back out if they did not swim away immediately and then just drop them on the ground. Oh, I wish I had my camera for that adventure. I felt so good about helping the poor fish and was so glad I could make a difference for something so little.
