Mule Day 2011

Last weekend, we took a mini trip to Columbia, TN to the annual Mule Day parade. I went almost every year as a child, but in the since Houston has been born, we have not gone. Our family had a ball, even Tim! I left work a little early Friday, came home, finished loading and packing my truck and then, we headed out. The scenery and sights were beautiful on the drive as we headed towards middle TN. We arrived around 7pm and hung out watching the walking mule shows and sitting around the campfire with family and friends catching up. My dad had a camp spot there and gave up his comfy horse trailer living quarters area for us to sleep in that night. Of course he slept with a friend that had about a $60,000 horse trailer with bedrooms and bathroom. Yea, it was NICE. The funny thing was, Houston had never been camping other than the backyard, so he was up til midnight talking about the campfire and how everything was so cool . There were probably 2,000 campers at the fairgrounds where we parked, but had a great spot and got to see lots of "sights" while we were there. We sleep in style with electricity, heater and I got to cuddle with my boys that night. It was about 37 degrees outside, but the heater was so warm, that Tim had to get up around 1am and turn it off. I got up at 4:30 am due to the neighbors generator and went for a run around the fairgrounds. I did about 10 laps and finally people started waking up and stirring around. WE saddled and harnessed up after a good cooked breakfast by the men and headed to the parade. The parade route was only a few miles but lasted almost 4 hours due to the high volume of people. Plus we had to wagon train there to get in our lineup. I heard there was over 5,000 in the parade lineup and over 200,00 watching it. On the way back from the parade, my dad's friend decided to flirt and ask these 3 girls if they needed a ride. Of course they wanted to ride to the fairgrounds to shop, they had been walking the entire route,so they jumped in and we went back to camp. Houston sat and stared as they tried to play with him. They were so sweet. We ate a BBQ shoulder and shopped at the fairgrounds shopping booths all afternoon. That night, we watched the mule shows, sat around and talked, watched this amazing mule, named Amazing Grace (post to follow) and packed up to head home. My sister had just sold her mule for a lot lot lot more money than she pd for him a few years back, so she was really upset and having a bittersweet night since she had became so attached to her "child mule". I felt so bad for her. Anyway, we head home and of course Houston goes to sleep the minute we pull out of the fairgrounds. He went all weekend nonstop and had a blast playing and being a "boy" (mud, dirt, yucky stuff). As soon as we arrive in our hometown almost 3 hours later, he coughs in his sleep, then proceeds to throw up all over the place in my car. It was after midnight, we were so tired and we had to then stop and clean him up in the parking lot of some store. It was awful. We finally got in bed around 130ish or 2 am and Tim got up at 4:30 am and headed to work. Houston and I sleep a few hours, then spent the entire day cleaning and unpacking the truck. What a wonderful weekend and getaway we had though! It was great spending time with my sister and her hubby, my dad and old friends from high school. I took over 600 pics and even had to go through and edit and delete b/c so many were so similar or were taken by Houston.
